My go-to spot for coffee and bomb food. I come here to study, to meet up with friends, to get a little sweet treat- honestly I'll find any excuse to go to Friend of Friends. My favorite items are: - The OG with chili crisp: it's huge and a really good smash burger. It's well seasoned on its own, but the chili crisp sets it over the top - Mini OG: the perfect smaller portion of the OG - Wavy Bao: my top favorite. I would never think a smash burger would be good as a bao bun, but the wavy bao is soo addicting. It's crispy and perfectly seasoned. It's my new go-to - Buko Pandan Latte: I love Pandan flavor in general and the Buko Pandan is the perfect nod to the Filipino culture in the neighborhood. It's my favorite drink here - Palo Santo latte: brown sugar espresso drink with the smoothest hint of palo santo. I didn't think I'd like it but now I get it whenever I'm not feeling like Buko Pandan. Overall such a great vibe. They have DJs spin on vinyl records sometimes and always have a dope atmosphere and top tier service from staff. The owners are National City locals and host so many local events here. This is what building cool stuff in our own neighborhoods looks like with food, drinks, and staff that show how dope National City is and always has been.
What a cute spot. I haven't ventured down to National City-- glad I did for this spot. Love the decor/ vibe and all the plants. There are food menus for different times of day-- missed the early portion (breakfast). My bf had their OG (burger situation) and I had that situation in a bao bun (the wavy bun). Bf loved the OG. I thought the wavy was juicy but lacked flavor, but nothing a little hot sauce couldn't help. We both had the buko pandan latte--- which was tops! I've only had it at one other spot-- hope buko pandan takes over the world.
The vibes here are exquisite !! The staff are friendly and you can definitely tell that this place attracts a beautiful community. The decorations make this place feel homey, their drinks are amazing, I had the Nana's Mocha. The Buko latte was amazing too, my friend and I loved it. I didn't get the food, my friends did, and they said it was super tasty. I studied here for most of the day, the music was vibey, but I do think that this place is mainly attractive for a more social setting than studying. They have games to play at the tables. That being said, I loved the ambiance so much that I stayed and was able to lock in anyway! Would come again! Parking is tough, mainly street parking or in the neighborhood. Wifi is available and the restrooms are clean!
This is my second time to visit Friends of Friends and I am pleasantly surprised at how good the drinks are the second time around! I ordered the Uncle Ace, which is the closest thing to a vanilla latte but tastes more like a light orange creamsicle in a drink, especially iced. It was just the right amount of caffeine for me and not too sweet. I got it with oat milk. And I also had their heirloom sando and added some argula and had the black garlic ranch sauce on the side. It is a light bite, the lightest crispiness with the seeds, which was perfect for me since I was walking from Mile of Cars while my car was getting maintenance done so I had enough time to stop and dine in and walk back. Not too busy for a Tuesday during lunch time. Recommend this place if you are in the area or could use a work from home type of coffee shop & eatery. The vibes are perfect!
Friends of friends is super cute with earthy vibes and good music. This visit we went in for lunch vs just grabbing a coffee. I ordered the buko pandan latte and it is now one of my favorite lattes in San Diego. It was deep and earthy when I was expecting something sweeter and I was very happily surprised. It's a must order. The bagel sandwich was more of a 4/5 due to the bagel have a hard bite. Maybe it's me but my teeth were having trouble cutting the bagel. The flavors though were great, the egg and cream cheese go well together with the bacon. And lastly, the passion fruit pop tart! Oh my goodness I loved it. I need it. It's so tart! I like that it wasn't washed out with sugar, it was left alone to be the tart fruit it is. I look forward to getting back down to friends of friends.
Ooooi! Met up with a womentor here. Here was my experience. AMBIANCE: Parking: Street parking - free, metered, and timed. It's an eventful area that can get pretty busy. Seating: Inside and outside (shaded) seating with room for about 50 people. Feels: Welcome to National City! It's an eventful area that's generally led by a lot of eateries with some good music. The spot itself is pretty vibrant. Usually welcomed by great music, good smells of food or coffee, and chatter of people. This seems to be a coffee spot that shares it's kitchen to Wavy (burger spot). I dig the eclectic art, plants, to music setups. They got a HiFi listening bar with some good djs. It's a vary fluid place - great place to hangout, get work done, or vibe out. FOOD: Paolo Santo Latte (Recommend) Wow! This is pretty creative. You get a smooth, creamy, caffeinated drink with a pleasant nutty/chocolate kick that is also cleansed!? Simple drink with a nice smudge... love it. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Rhythm was great! It was an eventful day and Rhythm handled the rush pretty well. TL; DR OVERALL: 5 Stars. Creative food/drinks, reasonable prices and a pleasant experience. What's not too love? Nothing feels better than getting some work done, eating some delicious food while listening to some good music djs with good taste and smooth transitions. Their food and drinks really hit home hitting flavors all over the world. I'm curious to try out their brews next. Best wishes to Aaron Henderson, Marco Laguna and the Friends of Friends/Wavy Gang! National City is blessed to have this place. I look forward to coming back here. #FilipinoFoodMovement TIPS: *Check out their website for updates on events.
Friends of friends is a hipster vibe coffee shop that serves drinks, baked goods, and partners with Wavy who serves up their other hot food in the kitchen. Walking in you are immediately looking around at the cool artwork, the vinyl area in the back, and just overall taking in the cool aesthetics. After ordering, we had to wait about 10 minutes for our food to come out. The Buko Pandan latte is a must get! It's not overly sweet and you get this great deep flavor that's hard to describe (not necessarily earthy or smokey but lives in that area) that helps create a phenomenally balanced drink. The Thai Tea was also great and refreshingly smooth. The Everything Bagel was really tasty as well. The eggs, cream cheese, bacon all has great flavors together. The only issue was the bagel itself was hard to chew through. So you would take a bite and the fillings would spill over unfortunately. The Wavy OG burger was seriously amazing and I would consider it one of my favorite burgers in SD! It's a smash burger with 2 patties, cheese, confit onion and, chipotle aioli. The burger patties were bursting out of the bun once it arrived and I immediately got such a fantastic smell from the meat before taking a bite. There's nothing I would add to make this better. You need to get this or else you're seriously missing out. We ended with the passion fruit pop tart and it was really good as well. The inside had a nice tart flavor and I really enjoyed the texture of the pastry. I wouldn't call it flaky, but you get a nice soft bite through the whole thing.
Wanted to explorer a new area for food. This place is in national city and only street parking so it may be a task to get parking if it's busy. Wavvy burger and friends of friends is connected I'm not sure if it's ran by one person for both the businesses. The restaurant gives me like a coffee hang out spot. There were people just chilling around on their computers. The music was good not very loud just good vibes. The line wasn't very long when I arrived I ordered the OG burger, lumpia and cheesesteak with tater tots and a latte *I'm not sure what kind I'm not a coffee drinker I just wanted to be spontaneous today :)) * Everything was made very well, the only thing I noticed that all the food was really salty. But I'd rather salty than no flavor. I definitely would visit this place again. But maybe not for a burger. The pastries looked delicious. That'll be my next choice!
A coffee shop that serves great drinks, food, and has a dj in house? Hell to the yes please. Not only is the service spectacular, but the coffee drinks were extremely tasty, the house was bouncing, the music great, the walls nicely decorated, and the menu provided options. I had the buko pandan latte which was smooth, had a hint of sweetness, and went down nicely. The hubby had the palo santo latte which we've seen on more menus lately. We also shared a bacon, egg, cheese empanada which had great flavor and a buttery crust.
I've had this coffee shop flagged for awhile and the weekend is the perfect time to enjoy this family friendly cafe. Having grown up in the area, I was thrilled to see a cafe like this in National City. I felt like I was in North Park. With live plants hanging from the ceiling & windows that allow you to see the kitchen areas, it's an open and inviting place designed to bring people together. I tried the Buko Pandan and this was delicious! It was full of coconut flavor, creamy, & comforting. I took at sip of the B.S. Palo Santo and it had a nice smoky taste. I also had their cinnamon roll which just freshly baked. I sat at DJ bar while she spun some music. Great place to relax and have a cup of coffee. Will definitely come back again. Service was great and baristas were friendly.
